Every year, the number of people in the Netherlands with a chronic condition increases. As many as 9.9 million people in the Netherlands had one or more chronic conditions in 2019. This number corresponds to 58 per cent of the Dutch population! The most common chronic conditions are osteoarthritis and chronic neck and back pain. Physiotherapy for diabetes
Diabetes has two types. Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes. Part of the difference is that type 1 diabetes is always chronic. Type 2 diabetes can also be caused by obesity and lack of exercise. With type 2 diabetes, the focus will therefore be on improving lifestyle, among other things. However, exercise has also been shown to improve insulin sensitivity. It also increases glucose tolerance.
Physiotherapy for rheumatism and osteoarthritis
Do your joints suffer from rheumatism or osteoarthritis? Then exercise is very important. When mobility decreases due to rheumatism or osteoarthritis, you tend to sit still. However, after a long time sitting or lying down, the symptoms will actually increase. Through exercise therapy, we will guide you to maintain mobility, improve fitness and muscle strength.
Physiotherapy for chronic back and neck pain
Chronic back and neck pain we can treat them in two ways. We can use physiotherapy to loosen up that back and/or neck. We also offer exercise therapy to guide movement. Guidance in movement with back and neck complaints is very important. Our physiotherapist indicates which movements are good and which are not. The result: better condition, stronger muscles and pain reduction.
Physiotherapy for COPD
Physiotherapy or exercise therapy is also important for people with lung problems, such as COPD. It is important for maintaining or improving physical activity and/or capacity. As our physiotherapists focus on the respiratory system, quality of life improves.
Physiotherapy in Parkinson's disease
Finally, you can also come to us if you have the disease of Parkinson's has. Research has shown that patients with Parkinson's disease benefit from physiotherapy. For example, they are less likely to suffer from bone fractures. During treatment, fitness will be maintained or even improved. In addition, you will work with your physiotherapist to improve the performance of daily activities.
Physiotherapy for another chronic condition
We have now described only the most common chronic conditions. This does not mean that we cannot help you with other chronic conditions. Do you have another chronic condition? Then it is still wise to contact our physiotherapy practice. We will then discuss with you what we can do for you. In general, chronic conditions are treated with exercise therapy. The emphasis is then mainly on improving and maintaining a healthy condition.
