Every year we make new resolutions, such as quitting smoking, cutting down on sweets or exercising more. Unfortunately, most resolutions are given up halfway through January because they are not very realistic. That is why we have drawn up 6 resolutions for you that are achievable, so that you can get through the new year a bit fitter and healthier.
1. Eat something healthy with every meal
Many people's New Year's resolution is to live healthier or lose weight. This is just very difficult to keep up. Why not start a little easier by eating something healthy with every meal. A kiwi with breakfast, a salad with lunch and extra vegetables with dinner. You can also easily follow this through with snacking, eat more fruit or yoghurt and less cake or sweets. This is easy to incorporate into your daily routine!
2. Sleep 8 hours a day
Some people sleep only 4 to 6 hours a day, usually using lack of time as an excuse. Often, these people do not realise that 6 hours of sleep or less can have harmful effects on the body and mind. If you do not sleep enough, your body does not make enough antibodies and cells, which can make you feel weaker when you get up in the morning. Also, too little sleep upsets your hormone levels, which can even make you gain a little weight. Therefore, go to bed a little earlier, watch less Netflix and close your eyes a little earlier.
3. Exercise a few minutes a day
Exercise is very important. But sometimes you just can't exercise every day due to your busy schedule. This does not have to be a problem. If you make sure you exercise a few extra minutes a day, you will already make gains. It doesn't necessarily have to be exercise, but you can also walk, take the stairs more often or do chores around the house. If you pick this up a few minutes a day too, you will feel a lot fitter.
4. Clean one day a week
Did you know that doing housework and cleaning is also healthy for you? If you clean your house or car one day a week, you will not only keep your house or car fresh and tidy but also get some exercise at the same time. Vacuuming and mopping turn out to be very good for burning fat, so get in there more often!
5. Drink more water
Try swapping your glass of cola for a glass of water. The recommendation for adults is to drink between 1.5 and 2 litres of water a day. Take a bottle of water with you to work or while exercising, and fill it under the tap a few times a day. You can easily incorporate drinking more water into your daily routine. Not much of a water drinker? Add a few pieces of fruit to your water for some extra flavour or drink more tea (without sugar, of course).
6. Learning a new sport
Learning new things is always huge fun. So try learning a new sport. Think bouldering (climbing), swimming, dancing, martial arts or rollerblading. Not only will you learn something new, but you will also be doing something healthy.
