In these cold winter months, temperatures are dropping. It is therefore important to take extra care of your body. Your body needs to stay well warm. The cold temperatures can result in stiff muscles and joints. To prevent this, we have listed some tips for you on how to stay warm during winter.
Tip 1: A warm-up is a good warm-up
In the winter months, it is extra important to do a warm-up before starting an activity. It doesn't have to be a long warm-up. Light stretching or moving around the house is enough. With a warm-up, you promote your circulation and warm up your muscles.
Tip 2: Stay warm during winter with extra layers of clothing
The secret, of course, is to wear appropriate clothing for colder temperatures. If you wear your clothes in layers, you can easily adjust to the temperatures. Thermo clothes are a good base layer to stay well warm. Over this layer, you can wear water- and windproof clothing. Don't forget to cover your hands, head and feet either! Put on gloves, a hat and warm socks.
Tip 3: Stay active in winter by doing activities
Moving will keep you generating heat. You can always continue indoor activities, in addition to looking for winter outdoor activities that appeal to you. Think winter hiking, ice skating and skiing/snowboarding. Staying active will help maintain your body temperature. It also promotes flexibility in your muscles.
Tip 4: Drink enough for good hydration
In winter, people often forget to drink because it is less warm. Hydrating is also very important during cold temperatures. Drinking warm drinks will warm you up inside. Think about drinking tea, hot chocolate or soup.
Tip 5: Don't forget your feet to stay warm during winter
Cold feet can affect your overall body temperature. Therefore, it is important to make sure your feet stay warm. You can do this by wearing warm socks. If it is cold and slippery outside, it is important to wear sturdy shoes with a thick sole with plenty of grip. This will prevent you from slipping and prevent the cold from creeping through your shoe.
